Semen Baturaja Wins Two Prestigious Awards from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Thanks to Implementation of Good Mining Practice

JAKARTA – Thanks to its commitment to implementing Good Mining Practice (GMP), PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR), as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), received a prestigious award from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of the Republic of Indonesia, which was signed directly by the Minister of ESDM, Bahlil Lahadalia.

SMBR won two Pratama Achievement Awards for its success in the Safety Management Aspect and the Environmental Management Aspect of Mineral and Coal Mining. This award was given at the 2024 GMP Award event, which was held on Wednesday (25/9) in Jakarta and received by SMBR Vice President of Mining & Waste Management Muhammad Beni.

This award is a form of government appreciation for companies that have succeeded in implementing good and responsible mining practices. Mining safety management is one of the important aspects in the implementation of GMP, which emphasizes work safety, compliance with regulations, and environmental preservation.

SMBR is considered to have carried out mine management very well, both in terms of operations and compliance with safety standards. This award also confirms the company’s commitment to maintaining environmental sustainability and occupational safety in every line of operation.

SMBR Operations Director Muhammad Syafitri, expressed his pride in the award received, which further motivates SMBR to continue implementing Good Mining Practice as a form of implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles. This award is real evidence of SMBR’s efforts in managing occupational safety and the environment in the mining area.

“Occupational safety is the main priority in every operational activity. We always ensure that every employee receives adequate safety training and is equipped with the best safety technology. This achievement is the result of the hard work of the entire team in creating a safe and conducive work environment,” he said.

In terms of safety in the mining area, SMBR prioritizes occupational safety and health (K3) in every line of business by implementing strict safety standards to achieve the targets of Zero Fatality, Zero Occupational Diseases (PAK), and Zero Occupational Disease Incidents (KAPTK).

In terms of environmental management, SMBR has so far succeeded in reclaiming and revegetating 34.34 hectares of former mining areas, with at least 30 types of plants planted.

Vice President of Mining & Waste Management SMBR and Head of Mining Engineering (KTT) Muhammad Beni, emphasized that SMBR always carries out work accident risk mitigation and routine mine inspections to ensure employee safety and minimize potential hazards in the work environment.

Beni also added that post-mining land revegetation is SMBR’s effort to restore land function and increase its benefits sustainably.

“SMBR is committed to implementing sustainable mining operations by consistently implementing good mining engineering principles, where worker safety and health and environmental preservation are the main priorities, in order to create added value for all stakeholders,” said Beni. (*)

Increasing Awareness of Work Accidents in Mining Areas, Semen Baturaja Conducts Work Safety Inspections

BATURAJA – PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR) as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), continues to emphasize its commitment to occupational safety in mining areas. On Friday (20/9), SMBR conducted a joint inspection with management in the mining area as part of the implementation of the Circular of the Director of Engineering and Environment/Chief Mining Inspector of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Number: 12.E/MB.07/DBT.KP/2024 issued on September 9, 2024.

Also present at the activity were the President Director of SMBR, Suherman Yahya, Director of Operations, Muhammad Syafitri, and Head of Mining Engineering (KTT) as well as Vice President of Mining & Waste Management, Muhammad Beni. Also present were the Mining Operational Officers (PJO) who were directly involved in mining activities.

Previously, on Thursday (19/9), SMBR also held an inspection and morning assembly led by Muhammad Beni. This activity follows up on the Circular of the Director of Engineering and Environment of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Number: 10.E/MB.07/DBT.KP/2024 concerning “Lessons Learned from Mining Safety Cases in July 2024 and Morning Roll Call Orders and Joint Inspections.” The activity was attended by all mine workers and aims to increase awareness and prevent accidents in the mining area.

This inspection aims to strengthen the company’s commitment to mining safety and appreciate the performance of the Department of Mining & Waste Management team who have maintained the supply of raw materials for cement production optimally. SMBR also emphasized its achievement in maintaining high occupational safety standards with Zero Fatality, namely without any fatal accidents in mining operations.

On that occasion, the President Director of SMBR, Suherman Yahya, conveyed the importance of continuing to implement a safety culture in every line of work. “Safety is our top priority. We are committed to always mitigating risks with the aim of preventing work accidents and occupational diseases,” said Suherman.

A similar thing was also conveyed by the Director of Operations of SMBR, Muhammad Syafitri, he added that risk mitigation is a key element in preventing work accidents. “We continue to evaluate and improve the work safety process. Employee safety is the main priority,” he said.

Head of Mining Engineering (KTT) Muhammad Beni said, “Inspection activities like this are a reminder for all employees to always be vigilant and comply with established safety procedures. The success of maintaining Zero Fatality is the result of the hard work of the entire team, and we must continue to maintain it with high discipline.”

This inspection is expected to maintain Zero Fatality and improve safety sustainably. Workers, supervisors, and Operational Persons (PJO) are expected to be more compliant with established safety procedures, with a focus on socialization and implementation of stricter rules. In addition, this activity also aims to strengthen the safety culture at all operational levels, encouraging all parties to actively minimize the risk of accidents. (*)

LAMPUNG – The Board of Directors of PT Semen Baturaja Tbk. (SMBR) held an audience with the Acting Governor of Lampung Samsudin in his office on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

In the meeting, Acting Governor Samsudin invited PT Semen Baturaja Tbk to play an active role in development in Lampung Province, especially in realizing community welfare programs.

Samsudin expressed the importance of contributions from companies, especially PT Semen Baturaja Tbk., in the development of the regional economy.

“Development is not only about physical buildings, but how we can create a meaningful social impact. I hope that PT Semen Baturaja can continue to contribute to development programs in Lampung,” said Samsudin

The Acting Governor also emphasized several mandates from President Joko Widodo which are the focus of his work, such as eradicating stunting, controlling inflation, handling extreme poverty, and food security. He hopes that PT Semen Baturaja can play a role as a government partner in dealing with these issues.

Samsudin added that the government cannot act alone and needs support from the private sector. “The existence of these partners is very important so that we can work together to build Lampung. I want there to be a big leap in Lampung, and Lampung to become the best province in Sumatra,” he said.

On the same occasion, President Director of PT Semen Baturaja Tbk, Suherman Yahya, stated the company’s commitment to supporting government programs. “We have the same vision as the government to be able to contribute and benefit the community,” said Suherman.

Suherman also said that Lampung Province is an important strategic area for the SMBR market. Given the history of the company’s establishment, SMBR’s working area covers three locations, namely Baturaja, Palembang, and Lampung.

Semen Baturaja Increases MSME Competitiveness Through Branding and Product Packaging Design Training

BATURAJA – In an effort to increase sales and competitiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR) as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) through Rumah BUMN Baturaja held a Product Branding & Packaging Design training. This activity took place at the Kemuning Hotel, Baturaja, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra on Tuesday (27/8).

The training, which was attended by 50 MSMEs from various sectors, presented Reza Apriandi, Founder of Boesku Indonesia, as a resource person. Reza, who is known as an experienced practitioner in mentoring MSMEs to move up a class, provided in-depth insights into the importance of branding and packaging in strengthening product competitiveness in the market.

The training materials include branding theory, packaging design, and product photography techniques. In addition to theory, participants also had the opportunity to practice directly attractive packaging design, packaging processes, and effective product photography techniques. The purpose of this training is to help MSMEs improve the quality of their products so that they are more attractive and have a higher selling value.

Reza Apriandi emphasized that product packaging not only functions as a protector, but also as an identity of the product itself. “Attractive packaging design can be the main attraction for consumers. It is important for business actors to understand that packaging is the identity of the products they sell,” he said.

In addition, Reza also emphasized the importance of quality product photos as a determining factor in purchasing decisions. “Attractive and clear visuals will increase consumer confidence in the products offered,” he added.

Gili Aprial Braja, Senior Manager of CSR Semen Baturaja, who also attended this activity, expressed his hope that this training would provide real benefits for the participants. “We hope that through this training, MSMEs in Baturaja can improve the quality and competitiveness of their products in an increasingly competitive market,” said Gili in his speech.

He also added that this program is part of Semen Baturaja’s commitment to supporting local economic empowerment through Rumah BUMN Baturaja.

SMBR currently fosters at least 261 MSME actors under the auspices of Rumah BUMN Baturaja. Hundreds of these business actors are divided into several categories, namely Go Digital, Go Online, and MSME Naik Kelas, with 19 of them having successfully entered the MSME Naik Kelas category.(*)

BATURAJA – In an atmosphere full of enthusiasm and togetherness, the management and employees of PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR) as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) held a “Fun Match” match which took place on SMBR’s mini soccer field on Tuesday (20/8). This event took place on SMBR’s new mini soccer field and was a moment to strengthen relations between management and employees and test the company’s newest sports facilities.

The match, which started at 07.30 WIB, was fierce but still filled with laughter, showing high sportsmanship from both teams. The management team led by SMBR Main Commissioner Alex Iskandar Munaf with team members including Commissioner Inosentius Samsul, Main Director Suherman Yahya, Operations Director Muhammad Syafitri, and Director (Finance & HR Function) Rahmat Hidayat faced the Employee Team. Both teams played with passion, showing their best abilities on the field.

Chief Commissioner Alex Iskandar Munaf stated that the new mini soccer facility was part of the company’s efforts to encourage a healthy lifestyle among employees. “This mini soccer facility is a strategic step for the company to support employees’ healthy lifestyles. We hope that with this new sports facility, all employees can be more active and healthy, as well as increase team spirit inside and outside the work environment.”

Acting Governor of South Sumatra Supports Semen Baturaja’s Strategic Steps for Sustainable Growth

BATURAJA – Acting Governor of South Sumatra (Sumsel) Elen Setiadi inaugurated the Sako Bridge owned by PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR) as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG). The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda).

The event was held on Tuesday (20/8) at the Wisma Ganesha Hall, Baturaja, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency (OKU), South Sumatra. This visit was also attended by the SMBR Board of Commissioners including President Commissioner Alex Iskandar Munaf and Commissioner Inosentius Samsul and the entire SMBR Board of Directors, namely President Director Suherman Yahya, Director of Operations Muhammad Syafitri, Director (Finance & HR Function) Rahmat Hidayat.

The inauguration of the Sako Bridge was marked by the signing of an inscription directly by the Acting Governor of South Sumatra Elen Setiadi accompanied by the Acting Regent of OKU M. Iqbal Alisyahbana and the Board of Commissioners and Directors of SMBR.

In his remarks, the Acting Governor of South Sumatra Elen Setiadi expressed his gratitude and congratulations on the construction of the Sako Bridge. “On behalf of the South Sumatra Provincial Government, I congratulate you on the construction of the Sako Bridge in OKU Regency, South Sumatra Province,” said Elen.

The 60-meter long bridge will be access to Mine – 3 (T-3) owned by Semen Baturaja, this mine has reserves of cement raw materials that are estimated to be able to supply needs for the next 60 years. This inauguration is one of the strategic steps in ensuring the sustainability of the supply of raw materials for cement production in the future.

“In the future, we hope that Semen Baturaja can provide other infrastructure assistance for OKU Regency, so that with this assistance, the community can directly feel the positive effects of Semen Baturaja for the community,” he said.

He added that he hopes that the inauguration of this Bridge Construction can expand accessibility in OKU Regency, so that social activities can run smoothly to improve the economy of the community in the surrounding area. We all hope that the construction of this bridge can benefit all levels of society.

Meanwhile, SMBR President Director Suherman Yahya explained that T-3 is a strategic asset for Semen Baturaja. “The administrative progress of determining the work area at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has reached 85%, and the issuance of the Mining Business Permit (IUP) for production operations in August 2023 with an IUP area of ​​1,552.54 hectares, we are optimistic that this mine will become an important resource to support sustainable production,” he said. The Acting Governor of South Sumatra also planted Red Kaliandra (Caliandra Calothyrsus) tree seedlings as a symbol of commitment to environmental preservation at Semen Baturaja. This planting is part of Semen Baturaja’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions through the use of biomass from red calliandra plants as an alternative fuel.

SMBR President Director Suherman Yahya explained that the company is committed to continuing to find innovative, environmentally friendly solutions, one of which is through the use of Renewable Energy (EBT).

“The use of biomass as fuel is one of our efforts to reduce carbon emissions, and we are optimistic that this step will make a significant contribution to achieving the Net Zero Emission target by 2060,” he explained.

Suherman revealed that the company has identified a biomass potential of 46,844.56 tons produced from a total of 54,429 vegetation, including red calliandra plants that have calories ranging from 4,100 – 4,200 kilocalories (kcal) which are planned to be managed as alternative fuels to substitute coal or EBT.

“Until now, Semen Baturaja has had 972 red calliandra plants, with a target of 1,500 red calliandra plants planted by the end of the year, with the potential calculation of being able to absorb up to 75.93 tons of CO₂. This shows a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions,” said Suherman. (*)

BATURAJA – In an effort to ensure operational readiness and improve company performance in Semester II/2024, the Commissioner of PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR), Inosentius Samsul, paid a working visit to the SMBR Office in Palembang on Tuesday (13/8). During his visit, he was accompanied by SMBR Main Director Suherman Yahya and staff.

This visit has the main focus on checking the Distribution Center (DC) in Palembang, which is an important distribution center for the company in ensuring Semen Baturaja products can be distributed optimally to various marketing areas. DC Palembang is expected to be the spearhead in improving product distribution to be more efficient and effective in Semester II/2024.

On this occasion, Inosentius Samsul conveyed the importance of thorough preparation and improvement in every aspect of the company’s operations. “We must ensure that all elements of the company work optimally to achieve the targets set in Semester II/2024. This visit is part of our commitment to improve performance and ensure better distribution readiness,” said Inosentius.

Apart from that, this visit was also a moment to review the strategies that the company will implement in facing challenges in the second half of this year.

SMBR President Director Suherman Yahya emphasized that the company is making various adjustments and innovations to improve performance in Semester II/2024 and consolidate with the parent company SIG. “We realize that performance results in Semester I/2024 still need to be improved. Therefore, we are focusing on strengthening distribution and optimizing production to achieve better targets in Semester II/2024,” explained Suherman.

Present at the event were the ranks of the SMBR Board of Commissioners including President Commissioner Alex Iskandar Munaf who attended offline, Commissioner Hadi Daryanto and Independent Commissioner Chodwadja Sanova who joined online, and Secretary of the Board of Commissioners Agus Darmawan who also attended offline and accompanied the President Commissioner. JAKARTA – PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR) as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) has won 3 awards at the 2024 Environmental and Social Innovation Awards (ENSIA) held by PT Sucofindo on Wednesday (31/7) at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali.

The three awards brought home by SMBR were two Platinum Awards and one Silver Award, including the Platinum Predicate for the B3 Waste Reduction Innovation category and the Energy Innovation category and the third award for the Energy Efficiency Reduction Innovation category.

The awards were received directly by SMBR Vice President of Corporate Secretary Hari Liandu. It is known that the ENSIA Awards give awards to companies that have shown extraordinary efforts in environmental and social innovation. With the theme “Extraordinary Turnaround Innovation For Sustainability”, this event emphasizes the importance of innovation to achieve sustainability goals.

Hari Liandu explained that this achievement is the company’s commitment to presenting sustainable innovation to support environmental preservation. “This award is concrete evidence of the company’s commitment to supporting environmental conservation through sustainable innovation that has an impact on reducing energy consumption and reducing carbon emissions, in line with global efforts to address climate change,” he said.

At ENSIA 2024, won the Platinum predicate for the B3 waste reduction innovation category, an innovation carried out by SMBR thanks to the B3 sludge oil waste utilization program as a substitute fuel or alternative fuel in the kiln. This innovation has not only succeeded in reducing the negative impact on the environment but also significantly increased operational efficiency.

The second Platinum predicate was also won again, for the energy efficiency innovation category through the Cement Grinding Process program with the Addition of Cement Grinding Aid (CGA) as an Effort to Reduce the Slag Index. By adding CGA, the slag index can be reduced without sacrificing cement quality. This program has succeeded in reducing the heat & fuel consumption index, reducing carbon emissions.

Then, the Silver predicate in the Emission Reduction Innovation category was won by SMBR through the program using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in the form of Expert Optimizer (Intelligence Process Control System Program) to optimize the control of operating parameters on production equipment. This program is able to analyze all sample data massively and simultaneously to provide extensive information and appropriate actions, so that it can produce efficiency in the production process.

“In the previous year, Semen Baturaja also won an award at the same event with the Platinum predicate in the Social Innovation category through the SMBR Economic and Education Bee Farm Program, but this year we managed to bring home three trophies at once in 3 categories,” said Hari.

Meanwhile, in his remarks, Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry Alue Dohong at the peak of ENSIA 2024, appreciated PT Sucofindo, as well as business actors who have implemented efficiency in managing the balance between the environment, economy, and social.

This, said Alue Dohong, is a form of the company’s commitment to concern for climate change, environmental management. “We hope that in the future, business actors who receive awards can provide and create innovations sustainably,” he said.

Alue Dohong added that with the commitment of business actors in managing environmental, economic and social balance, of course, in line with the PROPER instrument. “How companies manage, not only the benefit aspect, but also aspects of the environment and social responsibility,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Director of PT Sucofindo Jobi Triananda expressed his highest appreciation to all business actors who have participated in the ENSIA 2024 event. Because, the innovations that have been produced, both social and environmental innovations, are real evidence of business actors in contributing to sustainable development.

This year’s ENSIA event was attended by 756 papers, and this event was held to provide opportunities for environmental and social innovators to implement carbon emission efforts, community empowerment and support proper as a government policy. JAKARTA – PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR) as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) received the Indonesia’s Top Green Leaders Award 2024 which took place at The Sultan Hotel & Residence, Jakarta on Tuesday (30/7).

This award was won thanks to the company’s commitment to supporting environmentally friendly and sustainable business practices. The event organized by Warta Ekonomi carried the theme “Green Orientation and Sustainability Initiatives with Progressive Movements” and awarded SMBR President Director Suherman Yahya as the Indonesia Green Leader for Green Orientation in Strengthening Green Business through Environmentally Friendly Innovation” in the Basic and Chemical Industry category. The award was received by SMBR’s Manager of General Affairs Jakarta Rena Nur Kumalasari.

SMBR President Director Suherman Yahya expressed his pride in this achievement. “This award is not only mine, but also belongs to all Semen Baturaja people who have worked hard and are committed to preserving the environment. We will continue to innovate to run a sustainable business.” Semen Baturaja has implemented various green initiatives in its operations. The implementation of the latest technology in the production process is able to reduce carbon emissions significantly. In addition, the use of renewable energy and increasing energy efficiency in daily operations are part of the company’s efforts to protect the environment.
