Semen Baturaja Wins Two Prestigious Awards from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Thanks to Implementation of Good Mining Practice

JAKARTA – Thanks to its commitment to implementing Good Mining Practice (GMP), PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR), as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), received a prestigious award from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of the Republic of Indonesia, which was signed directly by the Minister of ESDM, Bahlil Lahadalia.
SMBR won two Pratama Achievement Awards for its success in the Safety Management Aspect and the Environmental Management Aspect of Mineral and Coal Mining. This award was given at the 2024 GMP Award event, which was held on Wednesday (25/9) in Jakarta and received by SMBR Vice President of Mining & Waste Management Muhammad Beni.
This award is a form of government appreciation for companies that have succeeded in implementing good and responsible mining practices. Mining safety management is one of the important aspects in the implementation of GMP, which emphasizes work safety, compliance with regulations, and environmental preservation.
SMBR is considered to have carried out mine management very well, both in terms of operations and compliance with safety standards. This award also confirms the company’s commitment to maintaining environmental sustainability and occupational safety in every line of operation.
SMBR Operations Director Muhammad Syafitri, expressed his pride in the award received, which further motivates SMBR to continue implementing Good Mining Practice as a form of implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles. This award is real evidence of SMBR’s efforts in managing occupational safety and the environment in the mining area.
“Occupational safety is the main priority in every operational activity. We always ensure that every employee receives adequate safety training and is equipped with the best safety technology. This achievement is the result of the hard work of the entire team in creating a safe and conducive work environment,” he said.
In terms of safety in the mining area, SMBR prioritizes occupational safety and health (K3) in every line of business by implementing strict safety standards to achieve the targets of Zero Fatality, Zero Occupational Diseases (PAK), and Zero Occupational Disease Incidents (KAPTK).
In terms of environmental management, SMBR has so far succeeded in reclaiming and revegetating 34.34 hectares of former mining areas, with at least 30 types of plants planted.
Vice President of Mining & Waste Management SMBR and Head of Mining Engineering (KTT) Muhammad Beni, emphasized that SMBR always carries out work accident risk mitigation and routine mine inspections to ensure employee safety and minimize potential hazards in the work environment.
Beni also added that post-mining land revegetation is SMBR’s effort to restore land function and increase its benefits sustainably.
“SMBR is committed to implementing sustainable mining operations by consistently implementing good mining engineering principles, where worker safety and health and environmental preservation are the main priorities, in order to create added value for all stakeholders,” said Beni. (*)
