PALEMBANG – PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR) as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) won the 2023 Environmental and Social Innovation Awards (ENSIA), for the Platinum Social Innovation category. The ENSIA 2023 award was received directly by SMBR Senior Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Gili Aprial Braja at the Gumaya Hotel, Semarang, East Java on Thursday (10/8).

With the theme of social-economic innovation based on environmental preservation, through the SMBR Economic and Education Bee Farm Program, PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR) received the highest appreciation at the 2023 Environmental and Social Innovation Awards (ENSIA) event organized by PT Sucofindo. This appreciation is given to companies that have successfully implemented Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programs around their business unit areas.

The presentation of the ENSIA 2023 Award was also attended by Deputy Minister of the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry Environment (KLHK) Alue Dohong, Director General of Pollution Control and Environmental Damage of the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry Sigit Reliantoro and Commercial Director of PT Sucofindo Darwin Abas.

Gili explained “SMBR Economic and Education Bee Farm is a community and environmental empowerment program through the management of honey from trigona beekeeping. This cultivation is the result of replication resulting from the post-mining reclamation area which was converted into new vegetation and ecosystem land, as well as a habitat for various fauna that live around the SMBR mining area by the Department of Mining (Beeyond Honey), one of which is the trigona bee. Efforts to exploit the success of this reclamation are by carrying out Trigona Bee Cultivation as a fauna that helps pollinate plants and as a producer of honey. SMBR sees this cultivation activity as a new business opportunity that can generate benefits for the environment and society.”

It was further explained that SMBR is working with CSR assisted villages through the Laya Village Integrated Farmers Group and Maju Mandiri BUMDes in managing trigona beekeeping and developing the honey business. This collaboration aims to provide knowledge and skills to the community in the cultivation of Trigona honey, as well as increase public awareness of the importance of sustainable environmental preservation. In addition, this collaboration also encourages an increase in the economic welfare of the community and contributes to increasing income through the sale of Trigona bee honey.

Besides that, Gili would like to thank Sucofindo for the award that has been given. This award is a form of appreciation and success for the hard work of all SMBR employees in applying social innovation in community empowerment programs. In the future, Gili added, SMBR will continue its efforts in empowering communities that are oriented towards innovation, especially environmental or social. “This award is an achievement as well as SMBR’s real commitment to having a positive impact on the environment and society,” he said.

SMBR always supports the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) through the implementation of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) based programs in all of its operational areas. This is part of Environmental and Social Responsibility (TJSL), in order to realize economic benefits in society. (*)
