Semen Baturaja Supports Strengthening of Occupational Health and Safety Competencies of FEB Students at Muhammadiyah University of Palembang

company activities, News

BATURAJA – PT Semen Baturaja (SMBR), a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting the development of the younger generation’s competencies, particularly in the field of occupational safety and health (OHS). This commitment was demonstrated through the company’s involvement as a keynote speaker in an OHS training session entitled “Safety Awareness & Risk Insight: Building an Understanding of OHS Risks Through Safety Building & Risk Mapping,” organized by the Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Muhammadiyah University of Palembang, on Saturday (November 22nd).

The event, held in the Hall of the KH. Faqih Usman Building, 7th Floor, featured speakers from SMBR: Erwinsya, Senior Manager of HSE, Muri Tajam, Manager of HSE, and Imam Pratama Azi, Junior Specialist Health & Safety, along with his team.

The three speakers provided hands-on training to students on safety culture, hazard identification, risk control, and risk mapping, as applied in cement industry operations.

SMBR’s Director of Operations, Taufik, expressed his appreciation for the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of Muhammadiyah University of Palembang’s initiative to actively engage the industrial sector in student learning. “The industrial world desperately needs a generation that understands risk, safety culture, and operational standards from the beginning of their studies. We hope there will be follow-up programs in the future, and SMBR is ready to continue supporting competency-building efforts like this,” he said.

SMBR’s involvement in this training is part of the company’s contribution to expanding OHS education to the public, while also introducing safety standards that are a crucial part of the cement industry’s operational chain.

From an academic perspective, the Dean of FEB UMP, Dr. Yudha Mahrom DS, S.E., M.Si., welcomed this collaboration and emphasized that competencies such as OHS are a real need in the field.
“We want to ensure that students are not only theoretically sound, but also prepared to face the risks of work in various sectors. OHS training with SMBR is a concrete step in developing professional and competitive graduates,” he said.

Head of the Management Study Program, Dr. Zaleha Trihandayani, S.E., M.Sc., added that the collaboration with SMBR provides significant added value for students because the material provided is practical and directly relevant to the needs of the workplace.

Through this activity, SMBR emphasizes its role as a company that focuses not only on business operations but also actively participates in human resource development through occupational safety education. It is hoped that the collaboration between SMBR and the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of Muhammadiyah University of Palembang will continue to support the creation of a competent, work-ready workforce that understands the OHS standards that underpin modern industry.
